Heritage and Conflict: International Conference, Santander

Together with the University of Cantabria, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIS / IMF) and the Cantabria International Institute for Prehistory Research, Heritage for Peace organised an international conference, aiming to bring together experts from organisations and academic institutions with experience of site destruction and of protecting sites in conflict.  The goal of the conference was to share experiences from previous conflicts, to examine best practice, and to learn lessons from this to seek ways to better protect Syria’s heritage.

The conference was held in Santander on 23-25 April 2014, and was very successful, with 13 speakers covering experiences from five countries.  The full program is available here.

At the end of the conference, the participants agreed the Santander Statement and Outcomes.

Heritage for Peace’s press release on the conference can be found here.
